The Sulphur Springs Water Tower Lighting Ceremony - Page 2

 

   

The late afternoon sun causes the tower to take on an eerie orange glow.

The James N. Holmes bridge on Florida Ave. over the Hillsborough River, with the sun setting just off camera on the left. 

The tower was built in 1927 and was the main water supply in  the Sulphur Springs area for decades.

In 1989 it was designated a historic landmark , protecting it from demolition.

 

 


 

The Hillsborough River provides a serene setting for nature lovers young and old.

   

One of the doorways sealed many years ago to prevent entry.  Through the years, the tower had become a popular place for various types of criminal behavior.

The tower lighting ceremony afforded curious attendees an opportunity to see the inside of the tower.
