GRISMER: During the same year, 1858, Tampa suffered still another blow .  

 

 

 

. Soon they were fired up, and the engine whistles were blown. Tampa’s Sunland Tribune reported: "The echoes had hardly died away when from every street and alley, every doorway and window, and from the four winds came a mass of humanity to gaze at the monsters of the rails. It was an impromptu celebration such as Tampa had never seen before."33
