Daniel McCoy was born April 24, 1788 in Virginia, and died July 10, 1855 in Pike County, Kentucky. He married Margaret Taylor February 12, 1817 in Floyd Co., Ky., daughter of John Taylor and Mary Varney. She was born November 12, 1800.

They were living in Pike county in 1830 and then moved to Logan county, Virginia before 1840, and continued to live there until their deaths. Peggy probably died before 1870. Daniel was still living at the age of 90 in the 1880 census, but was listed as widowed and disabled in the household of Ellison C. Duty and wife Harriette McCoy. Daniel's relationship to Harriette has not been definitely established, but she is probably his daughter.
