"Take to chaplin" unknown date, "Chaplain" is misspelled. - This is a novelty card meant to be a physical representation of the imaginary "TS" card (abbreviation for expletive, "Tough ---") referred to in the Army. Soldiers who were dissatisfied, disgruntled or had a gripe about something were told "Take your TS card to the Chaplain and have it punched." In other words, to put it mildly, "Too bad." The hoax was often perpetrated on new recruits, and in more recent times, the cards were even printed with squares around the edge with the appropriate problem in each square "for the Chaplain to punch to show you completed your gripe session." |
